Most of the racers usually wait until the last possible minute to register. From what I have heard we should have some healthy counts this season. Might be a bit lighter than we were last season in Road Runners, but should see more Supers and Hobby Stocks. Late Models will likely be close to the same, Ironman is supposed to be big, but I haven't heard from many Ironman teams.
Many of the teams raegister at Governor's Cup, and some actually wait until the season opener.
I wish I could offer you better insight, but all I have is rumors and heresay right now, and you know how relliable that information can be.

ironman is a tough sell cause its the only v6 series of its kind. fun races to watch. wish they would give them some extra laps. its usually some good racing.

I think the laps for Ironman is directly related to the car count. With a small field after about 10 laps it gets pretty spread out. A bigger field would be a BLAST with more laps, then you'd see drivers have to work traffic and all sorts of strategy.
Usually tracks set the lap count based on the car count, which is pretty standard. After all, who wants to watch 3 cars drive in circles for 50 laps? I would watch if all three were close together and putting on a good show, but if it got spread out.... zzzzzz Might as well watch the Cup series with the sound turned down. lol

That wasn't the intent of my post, I'm sorry if you read it that way. I will be more careful with my wording in the future. I was trying to say that the reason that the Ironman cars don't get extended races is because the car count is as low as it is. I'd love to see 20 Ironman cars out there, I'd push for a 25 lap feature in that case every now and then.
I'm a fan of SHORTER features personally. I think the Late Models going 50 laps every week is silly. 30 is plenty in my opinion. I don't make rules or schedules, but I do have an opinion :-)
